Renninger family grieves for fallen officer | Crime

A Pennsylvania family is mourning the death of a police officer who was killed in an ambush at a coffee house in Washington state.

A brother of 39-year-old Sgt. Mark Renninger, who grew up in Bethlehem, says in a statement to WFMZ-TV in Allentown that Renninger was "a professional, dedicated police officer who made the ultimate sacrifice."

Matt Renninger also tells the station his brother was "a loving and devoted father, husband and family member."

Authorities say Renninger and three other Lakewood, Wash., police officers were shot to death Sunday at a coffee shop in nearby Parkland.

Renninger's former mother-in-law, Jan Giacolino, tells the Express-Times of Easton that his military service brought him to Washington.
