Battle over Camp Murray gate heats up

The battle over the gate at Camp Murray rages on in Lakewood.

Army officials want to move the gate from its current location at the corner of Berkeley and Union to the intersection of Portland and Boundary Street.

At a council meeting last night, residents of Lakewood's Tillicum neighborhood voiced their opposition to the move. They say it would cause a traffic nightmare.

"I feel that they really have not been creative in what they've talked about, that there's been no forthcoming suggestions from the Camp Murray side about anything that was any different at all.  They're just set on this one place," said neighbor Marise Schader.

Officials at Camp Murray offered to add speed bumps and resurface roads to ease concerns about traffic in the neighborhood, but residents say that punishes them as well.
